We want to thank the gracious people at the Iguana Reef Inn for our wonderful stay in mid-March. If you are looking for the most relaxing and beautiful place to stay on Caye Caulker, look no further than the Iguana Reef Inn. The grounds are pristine, the views at sunset are amazing, and the help is wonderful in navigating the island. We enjoyed the ultimate in relaxation and plan to return next spring. By the way, Carmen's salsa is the best salsa we've had! We cannot wait to return!

My husband and I are still basking in the warmth we felt on Caye Caulker..our stay at the Iguana Inn was perfect, it is on the"quiet side" of the island but is a short walk to shops,snorkeling/diving and restaurants. The pool area is well designed and comfortable. I will echo what others have said, it is truly the best place to stay on the Island.

Pam and I just returned "again" from Caye Caulker. The New Swimming Pool is wonderful and Pam practically lived in it. Lounging around the pool and enjoying a cold drink while viewing the wonderful Sun Sets allow you to know what life really offers. The Fly Fishing allowed me to break two personal size records "Again" (Amber Jack & Bone Fish). Looking forward to seeing you on Caulker very soon.(Thank You Jim & Mario)- Tight Lines ~ Jack & Pam Blake

In early November, Pam and I spent probably our 11th or 12th visit at the Iguana Reef Inn. This visit/stay was better than the last. Friendly, Helpful & Courtious Staff only make a Fantastic Time BETTER! Wonderful Lounge, Super Swimming Pool and the Best Beach to watch the "Post Card-Like" daily Sunsets. The Fly Fishing was "Outstanding as Usual" and I exceeded two of my personal size records again!(AMBER JACK's & Bone Fish without a Guide!) Hope to see you next Spring! Thank You Jim, Mario and Adrian for another Wonderful Vacation! Jack & Pam Blake Prather, CA.

We just arrived home to snow after spending 7 wonderful days/nights at the Iguana Reef Inn. My husband, myself, our daughter and her husband, our son and his wife. Each of us had our own room that was very clean and comfortable on a daily basis. The staff went out of their way to be helpful and hospitable. The grounds were always well kept and pleasing. The fruit in the mornings was great. The chips, salsa and drinks in the evening was something we looked forward to everynight. We will be back for another stay. It definitely was the BEST place on Caye Caulker. Thanks to everyone!!

Am late signing the guestbook from my last visit to Caulker in May. How can I thank y'all enough for making this trip another happy memory? It was so kind of y'all to make sure I could stay in the same room Jimmy & I had stayed in on our first visit. I think one of the things I love most about Caulker, is the people. Although it had been a few years since my last visit, most everyone remembered me or definitely my Jimmy. It was like coming home. Adrian, thanks for the talks, I hope you have had your knee surgery by now and doing well. Please tell Laura hello from me. The Reef is the most beautiful, relaxing place to stay on Caulker. Jim, Mario y'all did great! Am making plans to visit this coming Feb. and do the Jerry Jeff Walker thing. Everyone, visit Caulker and stay at Iguana Reef! Best decision you'll ever make. See y'all soon- dzi

Anjli and I had an extremely comfortable and relaxing stay at the Iguana Reef Inn---thank you, Jim and the entire staff! I also highly recommend Juni's Sailing (across from the only basketball courts on Caye Caulker along Front St.) for an incredible snorkeling experience, and Frenchie's Diving (on Front St.) for excellent diving. Thank you again for the very pleasant stay!

Iguana Reef Inn; So much to say in such a small space. Pam & I have stayed at Iguana for our 11th visit. Fly Fishing is our main attraction (well over 60 Bone Fish & Game Fish this trip) however the Staff (Adrian & Isabelle) as well as the Owners (Jim & Mario) are unparalled where as they go one step further to make your stay a once in a life time experience. Each of our many visits is unique and better then the last. Clean & Secure Rooms; peaceful surroundings, Best Beach and Magnificent Sun Sets. No Question or Concern goes unanswered; you'll depart with a different out look on life. We'll return in October - I'll look for you! Tight Lines, Jack & Pam Blake

My husband and I came to Caye Caulker for our honeymoon! And it was wonderful. The Iguana Reef Inn is by far the nicest place to stay on the island. I recommend to anyone! I always felt safe and completely taken care of....thanks Jim & Adrien! We met so many great people from all over the world, and we are looking forward to spending our first anniversary at the Iguana Reef.

We traveled to Caye Caulker to spend my fortieth birthday and I couldn't have been more delighted with the accomodations at the Iguana Reef Inn, certainly the best on the island. What a treat to have sunset cocktails on the beach and a wonderful continental breakfast waiting for us in the morning. Jim and Isabelle were fantastic. Jim arranged a great day trip to Tikal in Guatamala which was probably the highlight of our trip. Thanks guys, we'll be back to experience the new pool someday!

We recently spent another 16 Days at Iguana Reef Inn - (Our 10th Visit). We reaquainted ourselves with old friends & New Ones (Kay & Steven from Colorado - Super Great People). Fly Fishing was "Outstanding" and I lost count after 140+ fish on the Fly Rod. Lobster was in season so Lobster was the "Special" at every resturant. You notice immediately how friendly everyone is if you visit Iguana Reef Inn - especially the "Bar Keep" Adrian. Adrian always has a "Smile" on his face and makes you feel welcome. For Bottom Fishing or Blue Water Trolling; that form of Fishing was "Outstanding" as well - Lost track of Snappers & Cuda's as well. There are many species of Marine & Bird life around the island and I saw my usual amount of Dalphin's, Osprey's, Turns, Gulls & Fishhawks. Warm Torquise Blue Water and Super Good snorkling /Diving are everywhere-when it rains; its warm and your clothing drys quickly - no worries! Iguana Reef Inn, as mentined before, is our "Home Away from Home." We'll return in Febuary of 07' hopefully well see you there. Jim went out of his way to retrieve my "Lost Fly Rods" that didn't arrive from Dallas and his efforts were "Over & Above" - I've never seen or Experienced Service like this in my life - THANK YOU JIM!!! I took my 16 year old son on a Mom/son trip for a week during thanksgiving. I was worried that it might be too boring on Caye Caulker. I was definitely wrong! We snorkeled (the best I've ever seen), fished (thanks Jack..their fishing guru), croc hunted, sea kayaked, cruised the island in a golf cart, relaxed on the beach and enjoyed talking with the locals who are very friendly. The Iguana Reef Inn was a great place to stay because it is on the back side of the island and quiet at night with the best sunsets. Anywhere you walk is no more than 10 minutes away. Having breakfast buffet each morning was a plus and saved a lot of time. Our room (parkside #4) was very spacious and had 2 balconies. Service was tops and the rooms as well as the grounds were kept immaculate. All their recommendations for tours and transportation were top notch. They have a really nice bar and the pool is almost finished. We'll definitely be back! We're thinking annual vacation!

My wife and I visited Caye Caulker for the first time in early November (06) and made exactly the right choice by staying at the Iguana Reef Inn. Our room suited our needs perfectly, was kept immaculately clean, and gave us a secure place to store our valuables. The continental breakfast was a perfect way to start the day with delicious fresh yogurt, granola, a variety for fresh fruit, seriously tasty cinnamon rolls and coffee. At the other end of the day, the always friendly bartender, Adrian, served up just the right drinks for watching the spectacular sunsets. There is no question that Jim and Mario provide the best accomodation on the Caye, and they do it at a truly surprising rate--you just can't beat it! As for dinner, Mario's wife Carin is the proprietor of Don Corleone's restaurant, that specializes in Italian dishes (her chef makes his own fresh pasta) and, of course, fresh seafood entree, all accompanied by a well-suited wine list. We enjoyed ourselves completely and are already figuring out how to budget our time so we can return next year. J & T Victoria, British Columbia

Iguana Reef Inn is the absolutely perfect place to stay on Caye Caulker! The setting is wonderful, with the little beach the perfect place to watch the sunset. The rooms are very comfortable and the staff keeps them in good order. Everyone on staff is very helpful and willing to direct you to the right restaurant, dive shop, or whatever it is you're looking for. Other guests at the inn were also very helpful--Iguana Reef just brings out the social bug in everyone. And the breakfast--yum! We're already talking about returning to Caye Caulker and Iguana Reef--and we're looking forward to the trip!

Pam & I returned from I think was our "9th" stay at Iguana Reef Inn & Caye Caulker. Pam & I primarly Fly Fish when visiting Iguana Reef Inn and had another successful Fly Fishing Experience (Many Bone's & Game Fish - Thank's Piggy). Many people we know & meet ask us why we go to and stay at the same place year after year. There is no other place like Caye Caulker & Iguana Reef Inn. The Rooms are always clean, Personal Security Safe in your Room, Great View from the Beach which everyone else staying else where visit Iguana Reef Inn Beach to watch the Sun Sets. The lounge is very inviting and Adrian the "Bar-Keep" is always friendly and has a smile & ready to laugh. Jim, Amanda, Mario & Karen are dear friends and Iguana Reef Inn has become our "Home away from Home." We'll return in November and hope to see you then.

To anyone reading this guestbook section with the intention of trying to figure out whether this is the place for you.....just stop right where you are! There is NO PLACE LIKE THIS ON ALL OF CAYE CAULKER. Kim and I looked at many of the other accomodations on the island and I can tell you first hand that Iguana Reef Inn is the best hands down. From Jim and Mario the owners, right on down to the gardener and the service staff, this place exudes class and professionalism. We are usually worriers when it comes to travel to out of the way areas. Here was different! We were picked up at the airport, dropped off at the water taxi, picked up at the main dock on Caulker, our bags portered to the resort (over the next few days we watched poor souls staying somewhere else, schlep thier bags down the streets, lost and wondering where they were going) and anything we wanted to do from fishing and excursions to the final departure travel from the island required nothing more than a quick conversation with Mario, Jim or Isabelle.........what more could you ask for? I will tell what more you can ask for.......clean rooms, they have them...nicely appointed rooms, Oh yeah they have them...nice sunbathing area, you bet they have that too...easy snorkeling right off the back of the resort, Oh yeah they have that too...how about a nice bar with top shelf liquor and a fabulous bartender, that is here too...I could go on forever. On a broader front, Caye Caulker is just unique. Friendly, tightly knit, and safe. The restaurants are reasonable and very clean, we did not have any gastric situations in the 13 days we were there! Now stop shopping around wondering what is the best place on which to spend your vacation dollars.....you found it right here! One request however....leave 2 weeks in February open for us!

Let me begin with somewhat of an analogy that may drive my point home. On an airplane ride, there may be 100 passengers - all going to the same destination, but not all having paid the same price. In fact, a handful opted to pay a bunch more for a first-class seat. Again, all passengers end up at the same destination, but the first-class passengers paid a bit more to experience a more pampered service and a more comfortable environment.

This is Iguana Reef Inn. Mario and Jim and the gang have a place that is definitely comfortable. The entire property is clean and well maintained. The free complimentary breakfast adds that nice extra touch.

Personally, I grew up on Caye Caulker, but have lived in the US for the past eight and a half years. Yes, there may be places on the island where you may find accomodations for less, but I have no regrets in deciding to take my wife to the Iguana Reef Inn and enjoy the "luxuries" that are offered.

In terms of snorkeling, I am biased and will ALWAYS recommend Juni. Well...he's my dad, and he's the very best at what he does. If I may borrow his own phrase, once you experience Juni's Snorkeling Trip, "everything else will be downhill".

So, make the decision - choose to stay at the Iguana Reef Inn, whether it will be your first stay or a return. Then, just sit back, relax and enjoy Caye Caulker.

Jim, thank you for allowing us to share and experience y'alls place. It was wonderful! Until we meet again...

Just returned from our 8th visit at Iguana Reef Inn. With so many visits this is our "Home Away from Home!" Jim & Amanda, Mario & Adrian are like family. I have assisted some of you with Fly Fishing on Iguana's Web Page and this trip was the most successful Fly Fishing trip today. Caught well over 100 (released most) fish with a fly rod and had a 33 Bone Fish Morning with Piggy! Piggy's the best Fly Fishing Guide on the island. Caught several large bone fish as well as many other Game Fish. Iguana Reef is a resort for eveyone. Bird Watching, Snorkling, Swiming, Diving, Jungle Tours, Mayan Ruin Tours and Manatee watching. If you can't find an activity that interests you there is always reading a book and relaxing on the Best Beach on the Island! We spent about a week at the end of August at the Iguana Reef for birthdays on the 22nd & 23rd (my being my 50th). It is by far the best place to stay on Caye Caulker. Don't go further than this site, the place is immaculate. Jim and Adrian do a great job to keep you happy. If you are planning a stay at Caye Caulker, this is the place. We visited Caye Caulker the first week of July and had a wonderful 7-day stay at the Iguana Reef! It is truly the best place to stay on Caye Caulker and the staff is wonderful. Jim, Mario, Isabel and Andrian were all so helpful! Dottie's birthday was the 1st day we were there and they did a great job putting flowers and a bottle of wine in the room and arranging a message therapist to give her a massage in our room. They also answered our many questions and helped us arrange our day trips to Tikal and Cave tubing on the mainland. We also loved watching the sunset on the beach each night, while sipping one of Adrian's drinks! Thanks again for such great hospitality!

Iguana Reef Inn is a truly amazing place on the most wonderful island. Perfectly designed resort.... immaculate beach, perfect swimming pier, delicious fresh fruit and breads for breakfast, relaxing hammocks for reading (or napping) and comfy, clean and colorful rooms! Too many memories to write down... seahorse sightings, dolphins in the sunset, most amazing coladas from the best bartender anywhere (thanks Adrian)... everyone at Iguana Reef Inn ensured we had a perfect vacation... they obviously love, respect and passionately care for Caye Caulker.... Our family of four just returned from a week at the Iguana Reef. We had a wonderful visit. The rooms were colorful and clean. We had been on the mainland with 98 degree heat so we loved the a/c. The beach out back was fabulous, on calm days we saw rays, spotted rays, baracuda, toad fish, and many others. The soccer games close by were a big hit too. Jim, Isabel, and all the staff were friendly and so helpful setting up snorkling tours, fishing expeditions, and getting us flights to the mainland. They made our stay wonderful. Caye Caulker... we arrived at Iguana Reef and were met by Jim. Everything was just beautiful! So many new additions, beautiful tropical plants, belizean hand crafted decor throughout our room. Behind the inn we caught beautiful sunsets each evening with pina coladas decorated very tropically. Met new friends from all over the world. Kayaked around the entire island. Enjoyed delicious continental breakfasts. It was definitly paradise and we did not want to ever leave! We'll definitly be back! :)

This truly is the ONLY place to stay on Caye Caulker. I took my 18 year old daughter, Meagan,to Belize for just the weekend. Decided on this island and it was so perfect! From being transported from the airport by Domingo to being picked up at the dock by Frederico, we could not have been more pampered. The inn's beach is so peaceful and clean! It was swept off with a rake every morning! Everyone is just so nice and accomodating. This island is a very safe place to walk around, during the day and even at night. We didn't have much time to spend there but every single second was absolutely the best. Thank you Jim and Adrian! Looking forward to coming back and having another great vacation.

We just got back home from our 3rd trip to Caye Caulker and the Iguana Reef Inn. Wow, it was the best ever!! This time we brought our adult kids and they absolutely loved it too! They were able to finally understand what we've been raving about for the past few years when we speak of our friends on our favorite place in the whole world - Caye Caulker. The Inn had developed considerably since we'd been there 3 years ago so with the new bar and awesome beach, we found ourselves spending most of our time hanging out with Jim, Mario, Caren, Isabel, and Adrian while enjoying the sun and the tropical drinks. Thanks to all of you once again for a wonderful vacation. I am already planning our next vacation to see you and hope it will be sooner than the last one.

My son, Nick, and I are still talking about our TRIP TO CAYE CAULKER and the IGUANA REEF INN. Thank you. Adrian -- The world is a better place because of you. Thank you for sharing your "wonderfulness" with us.

Here's what I wrote in June upon our return. It's part of a post on a Belize forum.

As a college graduation present, I took my son to Caye Caulker for a week. He has always wanted to visit a tropical island without being touristy. This was definitely the place to accommodate his wishes at a reasonable cost and close proximity to California. Since we are mother and son, we did not need a "romantic" atmosphere but we did want a few amenities. With that in mind, there is only one place that fit the bill on Caye Caulker-IGUANA REEF INN.

Photos from our trip to CC: http://community.webshots.com/user/bethpolito

The inn is upscale and as far as we were concerned, the ONLY place to stay on Caye Caulker where you are buffeted from the winds. The grounds are immaculately kept. We stayed in #4 - 2nd floor - parkside. (2) very comfortable queen beds, spacious room with access to (2) verandas. From (1) veranda you can view the sunrise at 5:15 am. Late evenings we sat and listened to the sounds of CC and enjoyed the cool ocean breezes.

The room is equipped with a refrigerator and in-room safe, has vaulted ceilings, light and airy décor, tile floors and large bathroom. The room reminded me of the rooms at the CYPRESS INN, Half Moon Bay, California. (Huge difference though, the room on CC was $88 a night and the room at the Cypress Inn is $275 a night.) Included in your room rate is a lovely continental breakfast served from 7am - 10am in the bar area. You will not find any better accommodations on the island than at the IGUANA REEF INN. In fact, after looking at what is available on the island once we arrived, if it weren't for the IGUANA REEF INN, I doubt I would have traveled here.

Looking for a spot to chill to sub-zzzero in 85-degree heat? Check out the Iguana Reef Inn. Thanks to Jim, Mario and Carin for one of the best vacations yet, and to Adrian for all the hot tips and inside scoop on Caye Caulker, plus all of the work to establish island's best backside barrier reef. You also make a fair dinkum Belize martini, Brutha Rogers. We'll be back to visit in the not-too-distant future. N.B. Be sure to try Don Corleone for a meal you won't be able to refuse, not to mention the best wine list on the island. Cheers, folks, you made the whole experience perfect.

What a perfect place to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary! Thank you so much for your hospitality Jim. It's a lovely place. Thank you Adrian for sharing your knowledge of the island with us and introducing us to racada. We love it. You make the best papaya-coladas! Two days back at work and I'm still relaxed - now that's a great vacation! Hubby Steve & I celebrated our 10-year wedding anniversary at Iguana Reef and stayed for 10 days of bliss - napping, reading, snorkeling with Carlos, scuba with Belize Diving Services next door, eating many great meals at Rasta Pasta, and of course enjoying the company of Adrian, bartender extraordinaire, Jim, Amanda, and Carl. We had the best time!

Iguana Reef Inn was our pleasant respite on a totally idyllic caye off the coast of Belize. We had a fantastic time in your little island. The Inn was wonderful, everything from morning coffee and breakfast to nights under the stars. (We brought a computer and a DVD and had our own outdoor theatre!) Make sure to ask about a full body massage on the porch. It was one of the best I have ever received and make even more lovely with the delicious sea breezes. Even snorkeling off the dock in front provided a fun experience of holding a little sea horse. Everyone was most helpful. (Thanks so much for helping us retrieve our bag from the airport). We recommend this Inn to anyone staying on the island. Everything was taken care of so well. We also enjoyed our evening dinner at Don Corleone’s. The spicy pasta dish was wonderful. They advertised that if you couldn’t find what you wanted on the wonderful menu, they would make what you wanted, so Marshall had them put together a special pasta-lobster dish that was truly delectable. They did as advertised and more! Again, thank you all so much. We will be back. Marshall & Barbara Peters

Also ate at Don Carleones and loved it! Have already recommended Iguana Reef on Caulker to people. We would definitely come back!

We just spent a stretch weekend at Iguana Reef Inn and Caye Caulker and had a wonderfully relaxing time. Jim...thanks for taking great care of our needs at the Inn. Isabel....thanks for answering all my questions prior to our visit. Adrian (hope that's the correct spelling!)...thanks for making us feel so welcome and for your wealth of information about Caye Caulker, fish and anything else we had questions about. We had great fun hangin' out with you! Please tell Freddy that his warm "Welcome Home", his easy manner and of course his SINGING!!! will not be soon forgotten! We will definitely recommend Iguana Reef Inn to our friends. We travel a lot and both agree that Caye Caulker was at the top of the list as far as kindness and friendliness from the people who live there. We'll be back!

We have been friends with Mario for about 28 years, when he lived in Evanston, Illinois....we have been listening to this dream of his of building a resort in Belize for many, many of these years of friendship. We have seen the photos of his first building and were so excited for him...I kept telling him he needed a beach...and voila! he built one! Anyway, this was our first trip to the Iguana Reef and it was amazing! It is by the best on the island....so clean and well taken care of. The staff is awesome! Jim is so layed back and takes care of everything...Adrian is the best bar tender EVER! I told him he could start a school to train other people in how to be the BEST bartender...he is very charming and very attentive. And Mario! What a dream he has fullfilled! We are so proud of him. Iguana Reef says it's "casual elegance" and that is so true. The gardner rakes the beach every morning with a different design in the sand every day! The flowers and palm trees are so beautiful...the best, once again, on the island. The rooms are spacious and colorfull....and no TV, which we love!! Carlos is a really good scuba or snorkling guide...I was pretty scared to be in the water with the fish, sharks etc, but he is right there with you and both encourages you and teaches very well. He also makes beautiful necklaces, bracelets that are at his shop. When you come to Belize you come to chill out...you can just beach it, walk and explore the island, read a good book, go to the Myan ruins, scuba or snorkel...and eat dinner out every night at a different restaurant...speaking of which, Don Carleone is charming and Carin does a great job...she makes everyone feel welcome and the food is creative and good! And go to Cyds for rice and stewed beans and to the Rainbow for good beans and rice with stewed chicken. Half the fun of the island is just exploring and talking to the native people (half of which are gringos! with their own interesting stories!) and trying different places to eat....but for a romantic, wonderful dinner, stick with Don Carleones...we went three times. Congratulations Mario, Carin and Jim...you are quite a trio at the Iguana Reef....love you and miss you! Liz and John

From the minute we got off the water taxi to the time we left, we had the best vacation! The Iguana Reef Inn is perfect! The rooms are big & comfortable, the staff is friendly & helpful, the location is ideal, the breakfasts were yummy, and Adrian's fruit smoothies (with rum, of course) were something we looked forward to every single night. Recommendations for things to do, tours to take, places to eat were great. We loved our day with Carlos, even though we were scared to death of swimming with sharks & rays. The restaurants we went to did not disappoint. And Don Corleone's was by far the standout. We ate there three times in the week we were there! Congratulations to all of you on a job well done. We wish you continued success, and we miss you very much!

We stayed at IRI for 4 days, and we were thoroughly impressed with EVERY aspect of visit! From the delicious breakfast buffet, to sunsets on the hammock with a pina colada... our trip was perfect. Everyone at the hotel made us feel more like friends, and less like visitors. We can't wait to come back to Caulker!! P.S. Follow all of Jim's recommendations. Corleone's is GREAT, and Carlos has the best snorkel tour around!

This was our 5th visit to Iguana Reef Inn and we primarly Fly Fish when visiting the island. We were down for two weeks and Adrian, Jim & Mario are wonderful People. The first week we caught many species of fish including Bone Fish, Snappers, Jacks and even one "Puffer Fish". One day Adrian and I off of Caye Chaple caught 26 Fish! The second week the wind averaged 30-46 Knots - "Tough to Fly Fish In". Mario & Karins Resturant has excellent food and great Breakfast's! Go with Ras Creek and "Swim with the Sharks/Ray"; It will make your vacation - "Really"! We have made many friends on the Island and can't wait until next year. Jack & Pamala

I just returned from another relaxing week on Caye Caulker and IRI...the second time in three years and I've already reserved for next year. Jim, Mario, Carin thanks for another terrific experience, and congrats on the new restaurant...all my meals there were fabulous. The bar was a nice addition since my last stay and I have to say "Thanks" to Adrian for getting me hooked on rum punches. Cheers to all of you....I'm looking forward to next year.

We just got back to the States after another wonderful week at the Iguana Reef Inn. WOW! Nice going, folks! The new breakfast bar is wonderful! And we also had dinner at Don Corleone's. We checked out prices at some other places on the island, but NOTHING actually compares to IRI. Oh, other places are less in price; other places are "closer to the action"; other places, other places, other places...fooey! IRI is the cream of the crop. And so is Don Corleone's. I felt a bit silly ordering a pork chop while on Caye Caulker, but it was no mistake! And, Jim... sorry to say it, but I'm STILL a CUBS fan!

I am sending this to thank all of the people at the Iguana Reef Inn for making our stay in Belize a wonderful experience. We have traveled for many year and to many locations and we have never felt the genuine warmth of all of the people at the Iguana Reef Inn. If anyone would like to contact us at our email address please feel free to do so. Email address is mj.slaney@verizon.net The Iquana Reef Inn is by far the best quality of Hotel and the best price on Caye Caulker. We know this because we were booked with another hotel that misrepresented their hotel accomandations and thanks to the Iguana Reef they salvaged our vacation. Thank you so much. Mike + Judy

Dear Jim, Mario, Carin, and staff (especially Adrian), You made us feel so welcome and comfortable that we didn't want to leave! What an adventure our family had while visiting your sunny shores: snorkeling with a guide, or just in front of IRI; Mayan ruins tour with Rico as guide; fly fishing for bonefish and tarpon with Eloy; and just relaxing with a Passionate Iguana in the bar. You helped us make lifetime memories! What an adventure. Keep up the good work and hope to see you again soon. Chris & Lori Hilty Chagrin Falls, Ohio

Sorry we missed you Jim, heard nothing but good things about you. Can't thank Adrian enough for all he did for us. Not only is he a great bartender; always making sure we had a cool drink, but also someone who will sit & talk. He's the best! Have to mention Fredrick, couldn't have made it to the Inn without him. Hi Jim! I stumbled across the IRI back in April while staying at another hotel on Caye Caulker. It was a Monday and the bartender was off so you got barkeep duty. I sat on the back patio and enjoyed a couple of Belikens while you told me about CC and your terrific hotel. By the way, the pictures you took of me at the bar came out great. I'll be back on Caye Caulker for four nights around Thanksgiving and would never consider staying anywhere but the Iguana Reef Inn. I'll be back.

I must have pouted for three weeks after returning from the paradise that was Caye Caulker. It was cold here, and snowy, we were at war, and the spotted eagle rays were scarce. Iguana Reef was a tremendous place to stay — peaceful, welcoming, comfortable, and private. The magic for us was under the sea. Here's to the Carloses at Carlos' Tours — they're the best. Gentle, knowledgeable, tolerant, and not lacking a sense of humor. Thanks to Iguana Reef for being our very lovely home base. A special thanks to Jim for his suggestions, friendly communication, and competence.

Hey Mario and Jim -- Greetings from a former ABA-er--and former Crater, too, Mario, remember? Long ago when you guys were leaving, you told me, Mario, the name you'd picked out for your planned resort in Belize -- and, bingo, I found it tonight via a circuitous route that involved a New York Times article on Cay Caulker. You are, indeed, living the dream --I knew you'd do it! One day soon I'll come to visit, check out the drinks, the beds, the fish. Til then watch a sunset and have a beer for me! Our stay at the Iguana Reef Inn was fantastic! Mario, Carin and Jim are wonderful hosts. The Inn was clean and tidy and quite comfortable. I slept better there than I have anywhere else in years! Unlike places on Front Street, the IRI is quiet and secluded and not dusty. And the sunsets from the beach? The best ever! We hope to return to Caye Caulker for the incredible diving, and when we do we won't even consider staying anywhere but the IRI!

Jim, Carin & Mario, This is the first chance since we have been home to write and say "Thank you for the great time". Don and I had a wonderful stay on Caye Caulker and I wish we didn't have to come back home. I have talked to everyone about Caye Caulker and IRI since being home. In fact, our Vet is getting ready to plan a trip to Belize and I am going to bring him some of the pamplets to him that we brought home. I have already reccommended IRI and will give hime the info again. I can't wait until we can come again, but this time we will bring the kids. I thought it was bad before when I sat out by the pool at home listening to Jimmy Buffett and pretending I was on a Caribbean island. After ten days at the Iguana Reef Inn I am worthless. What a great time! Snapshots: Snorkel trips with Carlos-I feel like I earned 3 credit hours in marine biology Happy hour at the new IRI bar (the only place on the island to get a beer in a frosted mug) thanks Matt The food everywhere-we never had a bad meal. The lifestyle and the people. Sunsets at the Lazy Lizard or just off our own balcony. Going to Belmopan with the football (soccer) team for a game. What an experience. The sunset sail wiht Johnny, Bob Marley playing on the tape deck. Getting pinched by a land crab I tried to pick up at Jolly Roger's. There is no place to grab a crab that he can't grab you back. Our stay at Caye Caulker and the IRI was probably the most enjoyable time that we have had in years. We settled on this adventure after having read a short article in Mens Journal. We like the tropics, we like to flyfish, we like to snorkel, we are interested in the Myan culture, we love seafood, we enjoy meeting interesting people from other parts of the world, and most of all we enjoy a laid-back, casual place to stroll around. Caye Caulker is the best thing that we have found in along time. No cars, no hassels! We never had a bad meal, people are friendly, courteous, and helpful. Our fishing guide, Piggy, was knowlegeable and a pleasure to be with. The Iquana Reef Inn is with out question the only place we would stay on a return trip. This was our 2nd trip to CC and the accomodations at the IRI were beautiful. There is no other accomodations like this on the island. The island is very rustic, and that is wonderful, but it's great to sleep in a clean, modern place at the end of the day. We found the best dive shop to be Paradise Down, they had far newer equipment than some of the closer shops, and seemed to be more organized. Take some Gravol if you go on a long boat ride - it can be very rough. The food on this island is great. Visit Dante at the Split - Lazy Iguana Bar. This island is the place to stay on your vacation, Ambergris is far busier, more cars, and dirty. Cheers!

Any one interested in going to Belize should definetely stay at the Iguana Reef Inn. Mario, Carin, & Jim can take care of everything you need. The rooms are beautiful and spacious, and the views are unsurpassed. While you're there a trip to shark ray alley is well worth the time. Also take in at least one sunset at the Lazy Lizard, and say hi to Ken, Hope, & Dante. The people of Caye Caulker are very friendly, and eager to help. One of the things we enjoyed most, besides no phones, tv's, and infernal combustion engines, was the the lack of people trying to hustle you on the streets and in the shops. The locals couldn't have been nicer. Also, a nightcap at the I&I is a good time. We can hardly wait to return to Caye Caulker and the Iguana Reef Inn. We just got back to Indiana after several nights with Jim, Mario and Carin at the Iguana Reef Inn on our favorite place in the world - Caye Caulker, C.A. This was our 2nd trip to Iguana Reef and we loved it even more this time. Iguana Reef and Caye Caulker is no doubt a little bit of heaven. Jim, Mario, and Carin make each day the best for us no matter what we want to do. This time, we went fishing with Piggie and my husband caught some great baracuda and a spanish mackerel. Piggie is a very interesting person and the best fishing guide! We even met his son at the bank! We have been watching the growth of Iguana Reef for the past 2 years and look forward to seeing more great things happen there. We are already planning our next trip to Caye Caulker - hopefully will take the rest of our family at that time. You cannot beat the spacious rooms and breezy verandas to just sit, read, relax or whatever you enjoy doing. I have come to identify Caye Caulker as my island here in Indiana when speaking about it. I feel the same about Iguana Reef Inn - it is certainly our Home-away-from-home and Jim, Mario and Carin is our Belizean family. Thanks so much. The Keyes

We recently spent 10 days at Iguana Reef Inn and this was our second visit. Our last visit was Feb.00. Jim, Mario and Karan are very nice people and will go out of their way to ensure you have an enjoyable stay. Pamala and I primaly Fly Fish of Bone Fish and this visit we caught and released over 20 Bone Fish along with Barracuda, Barred Perch and Snapper. Piggie is the Best Guide on Caye Caulker and determining the time of year and Water Temperature he can show you large schools of Bone Fish, Snook and Tarpon. If you would like to talk Fly Fishing in the Caye Caulker area, give me an Email. Don't miss Happy Hour at the Sand Box and the Lobster Omlets for Breakfast at the Happy Lobster. The Whole Lobster Dinners are very good at Popeyes and the Grilled Snapper Dinners are good at the Tropical Paradise. Drinks at the Split are good in the afternoon (Rum Punch). We do not recommend Wish Willies for Dinner or anything else. We are planning on our 3rd visit already!

Jim, had to send a note to tell you Diane and I have NEVER had a vacation to match the week we spent as your guest. We are telling all of our friends about your hotel and are planning to return as soon as possible. Thanks, again for letting us ahare your piece of paradise.

Marsha and I spent seven wonderful nights at the Iguana Reef Inn in April. For those of you thinking about staying here, you can't go wrong. It's definitely the best place to stay on the island if you seek creature comforts, clean rooms and grounds, warm hospitality and excellent service. As with most things in life, in this case you get what you pay for, so don't be worried about the inn's comparatively high rates because they are definitely worth it. We would have been disappointed had we stayed anywhere else.

We had a wonderful, peaceful visit - just what the doctor ordered. We stayed 6 nights and enjoyed every one of them. Thank you Jim, Mario & Carin for your hospitality. Jim, thank you for forwarding my e-mail message to me in San Pedro. You were wonderful hosts and we are recommending the Iguana Reef to everybody we know. We will be back next year - can't wait to see the new additions. Thanks again.

Hi guys. Just wanted to let you know that Ted and I had a fantastic time last week at Caye Caulker and thoroughly enjoyed our accomodations at the Iguana Reef Inn. Needless to say, it is difficult coming back to reality. The sun has not shone here in Maryland since we've been back! Yesterday evening, I was daydreaming about watching the sunset and dancing at the Lazy Lizard w/ Mario and Carin. Miss you guys! Thanks so much for your friendly hospitality, and we'll definitely be back soon!

Jim, We made it back to CA after our Belize trip. Caulker is so much better....wanted to thank you for the nice stay at the Iguana Reef. I'm wearing my t-shirt now — what a bargain. Elisabeth is already talking the place up among her crew members I'm sure! Someday we'll be back for the penthouse!

Robin and I stayed at the Iguana Reef Inn last November and are looking forward to our next trip to the INN in May,2000. Jim and Mario were great hosts and we enjoyed Caye Caulker and the surrounding area. Robin also obtained the Womans World Record on 16 lb line class for the Cubera Snappper while in the area. Great sunsets and love the large Iguana that live in the back yard.

After 15 days in Room 12, I am writing this as we are packed to leave for home. It is our second stay at the Iguana Reef Inn, and this visit confirms the Iguana Reef as our Belize home.
There are so many beautiful places to stay in the Caribbean. The Iguana Reef is fine accommodation. The rooms are spacious and breezy. We’ve never needed the good air conditioning. The verandahs are wonderful places to relax. The tile and color and chosen with Mario’s careful eye. We like having a refrigerator.
For my husband the most important part is fly fishing with Porfilio—hunting and attracting the elusive big bony fish. Porfilio is an elegant and humble man, an experienced guide. For me the most important part is having an elegant place to sit and find quiet—this certainly fits that requirement. But many places would. I keep finding new beautiful places in Belize. We will keep coming back here, keep headquartering from the Iguana Reef because of the generosity and intelligence Jim, Mario and now, Carin, bring to the hosting relationship. Their consciousness creates this place so suited to our needs—that’s what keeps us wanting to be here again. Thanks to each of you, and to Yoli too, for taking such wonderful care of our Belize home, for keeping it so ready to receive us again.

As residents of Southern California and avid travelers, we were interested in the recommendation in todays issue of the Travel Section in the Los Angeles Times, placed there by a Gerald Larue of San Pedro, CA. As a result of this I accessed your Web Site and was impressed! Please keep us appraised of any 'special' promotions. We certainly plan on visiting !

With out a doubt, the Iguana Reef Inn is the perfect place to stay. Jim, Mario & Carin are very special people who make you feel at home the minute you arrive. If you need a break from the real world and you want to be totally laid back head to Caye Caulker. Relax, enjoy the sun, warm breezes, snorkeling, trips to Altun Ha and an occasional rum!!! The people of Caye Caulker are friendly, helpful and very glad to have you visit. San Pedro may be better known but for our money Caye Caulker is the best. The 2 weeks we spent at the Iguana Reef Inn were just what we needed and definitely the best vacation we have had in a very long time. We can't wait to come back and are looking forward to watching the sunset with a rum drink while listening to Jimmy Buffett. Let us know when the beach bar is ready even if you don't call it the Guzzling Gibnut!!!

Hey Y'all,
The website is looking great! I stop in every once in a while for a visit, and just to relive the fabulous time I had down there earlier this year. Hope the additions are still going well-- I mean to get down there again before too long to see it all. Heading to London first, though!
All best,

We really enjoyed your place. Wished we could have stayed longer. Don't forget to mention the cappuccino at the Il Biscaro. We also liked the fish and lobster at Willy's. Once again, thanks for the wonderful facilities. Hope to see you again.

Absolutely fabulous! I simply cannot express how beautiful the Inn was and what a wonderful time we had! It was a blast and full of fun and relaxation. I recommend doing as much as possible- snorkeling, fishing, the Mayan ruin trip, and of course spending some quality time with the super great owners, Jim and Mario. Our group absolutely adored the hotel, the island, the people- everything! We can't wait to return! Although the website is precious, it doesn't do justice to the wonderful atmosphere of the inn and island. Thanks a bunch, Jim! We'll see you sometime soon!

Hi Mario! Back in the states and just wanted to say thanks. The room was top notch! After staying at Black Rock Lodge in the jungle, and sharing our room with all manner of jungle insects, it was a relief and pleasure to sleep in your air-conditioned paradise, afraid of no bug! Hi to Karin!

Jim and Mario,
Thank you for a most wonderful vacation at the Iguana Reef Inn and Caye Caulker. Your hospitality was superb! Caye Caulker is truly the place to get away from it all. Those interested in snorkeling, don't miss Shark Ray Alley, Sargeant's Caye and Goff's Caye. Thanks again, Jim and Mario (and Carin). I will return one day! Check out my web page to see some highlights of my Belize vacation.

Our second stay at Iguana Reef Inn was even better than the first...perhaps because of the delightful air conditioning at our fingertips. The evenings were so pleasant with tropical breezes, though, we didn't always use the air-con! The diving was spectacular as we were more adventuresome and took longer day excursions. Jim, you are innkeeper extraordinaire!!! Every wish granted. How do you do that? And Mario is definately the finest architect in Belize.... Thanks for another of our life's greatest adventures! See you again this year (we hope)! For those of you considering Belize, you will find the best Belize has to offer at Iguana Reef Inn - luxury, genuine friendliness, relaxation, tropical breezes, crystal waters.... I could go on and on!

I thought I'd have to write something to say how wonderful your hotel was, especially having lived in the rainforest in hammocks for the previous 3 weeks with the Brathay Exploration Group. Your beds were so comfortable and you were very hospitable. I will never forget those views from the terrace, especially at sunset.

Can't stop thinking about Caye Caulker. Please reserve us a room (preferably in the new building, top level, towards the water Jan 21st,00 to Jan 31st,00.) We talk about our trip every week it seems. Caye Caulker was the most relaxed place we've ever been. Can't wait to come back.

The Iguana reef Inn is the best place on the Island. The hospitality of the staff is excellent. Caye Caulker is the place to go to just get away from the stress of the daily rush we all go through. It was a terrible feeling to get home and have to go back to work. This place is AWESOME!!!

Iguana Reef Inn was an absolute heavenly place to stay. Jim and Mario made our 25th anniversary the most special time possible! We really believe that Caye Caulker and the surrounding areas are just a little bit of heaven. The accomodations couldn't have been better anywhere - the rooms are almost better than home! I miss all the islanders and miss getting to go barefoot now that we are back home in Indiana with the sub-zero temperatures. Jim and Mario are the greatest and we miss you both very much. Looking forward to our next visit and to seeing the continued metamorphosis of Iguana Reef Inn. Take care and you may see Bob and his backhoe sooner than you think - ha!

Arriving at Iguana Reef Inn was like coming home after three days hard travel to get here from cold winter Montana. Mario and Jim both welcomed us completely. They work extremely hard and drop any task to answer a question or make things easier or more comfortable. Or even just share a laugh. They are great hosts. The Inn itself is well designed. Mario’s architectural background combines with the love and creativity he and Jim have brought to this place. There isn’t a bad room. The colors and tile are artfully chosen to hold and recast the wonderful warm light. We loved basking there with just the overhead fan. We came just to rest and relax so having a very comfortable clean room with a spacious and beautiful bathroom were premium to us. We paid more to stay here and we definitely got value for the money. Iguana Reef has carved out a new niche on Caye Caulker. Thank you thank you for making it an even easier place to be. We leave feeling the most relaxed and rested we have felt in months. We will make it easy for friends and friends of friends to find you! Your hard work is creating a great experience for many. Blessings on this place.
